Everything is Getting Disrupted

When I started this blog, I was worried that I would have difficulty finding things to write about.  What has happened is the exact opposite, I am finding multiple things to write about, and very much so got bogged down in research.

I started writing about how self service activities such as Airline Check in and Banking have disrupted employment, and lost the source article, so I will have to get back to that one, in short, huge amounts of employment disruption.

I have discovered how Education is being disrupted at the higher levels, and how it will be disrupted at the grade school levels in the near future.

Please view this documentary on Technotopia, Its 45 minutes and it is about the future brought to you by the visionaries of Silicon Valley, These guys see whole new countries, currencies, and even governments all as a result of technology.

So what will be disrupted:

  • Money & Payments between People & Companies
  • Real Estate Services
  • Banking Services
  • Government Services & Governance Itself
  • Education – Primarily Post Secondary
  • IT Programming
  • End-User Computing Tech
  • Manufacturing
  • Distribution & Logistics Services
  • Taxis
  • Employment
  • Office/Working Hours…including Location
  • Social Services
  • Energy / Utilities Consumption
  • Design & Creative Processes
  • Advertising
  • Television & Broadcasting
  • Print Media- News Papers, Yellow Pages Directories
  • Virtually anywhere there are excess profits through middleman (Brokerage) transactions
  • Anywhere where legislation or regulation are creating service inefficiencies but excess profits for those protected by the regulations.

I look forward to engaging with you in the disruption.

Disrupted – The Gasoline Powered Automobile & All Petroleum Funded Governments

Has anybody seen these popping up around Red Deer, or other Alberta Locations.

Charge stnTesla 2

I think in Petrol Powered Alberta we had better take notice, these are the first faint whispers of the end of our oil economy.

Tesla Motors doesn’t really even have any significant production and they are already setting up charge station around North America.  We are probably at least 5+ years from having a Tesla car that is even remotely affordable by the average person, current prices are starting in excess of $70,000 USD, but with a range of nearly 400 km/charge they are getting usable milage, and it will only go up over time.

Further Tesla announced today (May 1, 2015) that it is entering a Home Battery Back-up market with battery packs that are capable of running lights and appliances during power outages.  The batteries are charged and topped up by solar panels.  Again cost prohibitive for most in today’s market but Moore’s Law will see the price drop and capacity double about every 18 months or so.

Toyota is on record as saying that they don’t really like the idea of battery powered cars, due to limited range/charge but will be producing more of them as an interim bridge but is already moving towards hydrogen fuel cell cars, with productions starting on its first fuel cell vehicle this year.

The winners:  The environment, Mankind,  Low cost oil producers in the Middle East and other developing countries.

The Looser’s:  Any country with expensive to produce oil.  That includes Canada, The US, the UK and Norway, pretty much all off shore oil.

Let the Disruption Begin

Welcome to ” The Age of Disruption”

This blog aims to be the authoritative commentary on the world of disruptive technology, and the human impact both positive and negative.

The drive to produce this blog is based on my own experience of being downsized in the last recession(2009/10) and then as a result of changes in the economy ending up being structurally unemployed ( living in a place where appropriate jobs are no longer available)  But a place where my wife has a stable and good job.  Moving breaks her career for the sake of my career, so its not really an option.

I had a very traditional career, an accounting professional; a somewhat traditional education, an MBA taken online; and a traditional 9-5 managerial job…That was 5 years ago.

In the interim I have been a contingent worker, working several short-term gigs in my profession and running a couple of small sideline businesses.  I have also started to educate myself on using the WWW, Cloud Technologies, and Social Media to earn an online living.  I am amazed at what you can learn on line or very affordably with Groupon’s, yes technology is disrupting traditional learning as well.

I am just starting out on the journey, I am still earning the majority of my income from a somewhat more traditional contract “JOB”, but the goal for 2015 is to earn 10% of my income from online sources and to become a referenced source of knowledge on technology economic and social disruption.

My motto is ” Work Any Place, Any Time, on Any Device” using technology.

If you or your company has a disruptive technology please write to me and we will discuss its impact.  I would love to feature it in this blog.

My new venture will be a company called “Digital Matrix Social Analytics”
